This trip was the culmination of 17 years of riding bike rides from his first journey, visiting his daughter, who at the time was living in Harrisonburg, Virginia. “That one didn’t seem quite as big to me as actually making to Virginia at age 70,” Zook said. But Zook said was more proud when he finally reached Virginia, completing the journey in just under 15 hours, at 7:30 p.m. Zook actually was halfway through the ride, in West Virginia, when he hit the 100,000-mile milestone. Friend Scott Morgan joined him for the first 56 miles of the 203-mile trip before bowing out and leaving Zook alone to finish his mission. Well this was one of the best presents I could have received - being able to do that and to enjoy it.” Some people would say what would you want for your birthday. It was pretty rewarding to have those two things come together on my 70th birthday. “I also want to thank the people who were praying for for both safety and good trip,” Zook continued. Actually this year was a little bit easier - it just seemed like there was a very good tailwind. “I did not know for sure that I would be able to do it at age 70 because theoretically it keeps getting harder each year. The possibility of riding to Virginia on my 70th birthday and recording my 100,000th mile,” Zook said.
